AN ITALIAN ICONIC STONE BECOMES CERAMIC MATTER

Land of Italy is the result of Davide Tonelli’s investigation of an icon Italian stone frequently used in Roman times, “Aurisina Lumachella”, a compact limestone composed of a very rich organic fraction represented by fossil fragments of extremely variable shapes and sizes. Usually elongated, sometimes slightly arched, more rarely subcircular or subelliptical. The distribution of the fossil remains give the stone a special uniform colour effect over a large scale. The ceramic interpretation combines figurative textures and three-dimensional designs that create a hybrid between the nature of the stone and the context it is used in. The aesthetic formula seeks to balance both the diktats of classic style with those of a compositional, expressive code that refers more specifically to a taste for modernity. An iconic Italian stone that becomes a ceramic material, Land of Italy is emblematic of the Italian urban and extra-urban landscapes through the ages. History, design and ceramics mingle and come back to life in sophisticated contexts in which classic style evolves to meet the modernity of living, with larger organic fragments and neutral colours that are true to the original stone. The colour palette runs from grey, through hazelnut grey, sand and white and on to black.
Materials such as velvet, resins and burnished metals share a space rich in charm and personality. Shape and colour combinations become decorations with a contemporary design that blend original geometries with material appeal. Land of Italy offers Mix and Multicolor decorations that bring together all the colours in the collection, making it versatile and easily adaptable to both classic and modern settings.
